2 Timothy 3:14-17 (Common English Bible)

14 But you must continue with the things you have learned and found convincing. You know who taught you. 15 Since childhood you have known the holy scriptures that help you to be wise in a way that leads to salvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus. 16 Every scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing mistakes, for correcting, and for training character, 17 so that the person who belongs to God can be equipped to do everything that is good.

Summary:

It is Laity Sunday in The United Methodist Church. The lectionary passages discuss how we are to make sense of our “living” in this world. How are we to be faithful to God in our everyday lives? What is our “calling?” What is our vocation? By virtue of our baptisms, we are all called and equipped to do the work of ministry – be it ministry as clergy or lay people. God keeps God’s promises. We belong to God and God equips us to keep our promise to do good in Jesus’ name!

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does it feel when a promise is fulfilled?
  2. How does it feel when a promise isn’t fulfilled?
  3. What promise do you trust God will yet fulfill in your life?
