John 15:5-8 (Common English Bible)

5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, then you will produce much fruit. Without me, you can’t do anything. 6 If you don’t remain in me, you will be like a branch that is thrown out and dries up. Those branches are gathered up, thrown into a fire, and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. 8 My Father is glorified when you produce much fruit and in this way prove that you are my disciples.

Summary: Christ is Risen! Throughout Eastertide, we worship with the theme, “We,”  for we are a people of the resurrection, we are the risen body of Christ!

As a people of the resurrection, we are disciples of Jesus Christ. Jesus calls and empowers disciples to empower others, to bear fruit in God’s name. When we follow Jesus, then our lives, our families and our communities are transformed. As disciples, we learn the teachings of Jesus, we walk in the way of Jesus and others will know that we are Christians because we lead with the love of God.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does Jesus mean when he says “If you remain in me, you will produce much fruit?”
  2. What kind of fruit does Jesus want us to produce?
  3. What is Jesus calling you to do this week, to prove that you are his disciple?
