On Saturday morning, September 11, 2021 at 10:00 am we will not have our usual Facebook Live service as we will join in the Memorial Service for one of our beloved former pastors, Bishop Beverly J. Shamana. The service will be broadcast live on YouTube from Pasadena First UMC.
In addition, since we will not have our worship recording on Saturday, on Sunday morning, September 12 at 10:45 am, we will join in worship with our sister congregation, Grace United Methodist Church of Los Angeles at 10:45 am via Grace’s Zoom & YouTube accounts!
Saturday Morning Worship (9/11)
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Pasadena on Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. PDT. The church plans to livestream the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an interfaith organization that she long supported: “Friends Indeed,” which provides supportive services to meet human needs, especially to the homeless and at-risk neighbors, so that they may rebuild their lives. You may donate directly in her honor at https://friendsindeedpas.org/fid/ or send a donation to our Cal-Pac Annual Conference marked “Bishop Shamana’s Memorial to Friends Indeed.”

The guest preacher will be Rev. Dr. Michele Watkins, a Provisional Elder in the United Methodist Church, serving under appointment as the Assistant Professor of Theology & Religious Studies at the University of San Diego, teaching courses in the early church tradition, Black and Womanist theologies & Religion and Hip-Hop. Dr. Watkins holds a PhD in Theology & Ethics and Master of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary; Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Howard University in Washington, DC. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
