John 20:19-21 (Common English Bible)

19 It was still the first day of the week. That evening, while the disciples were behind closed doors because they were afraid of the Jewish authorities, Jesus came and stood among them. He said, “Peace be with you.” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. When the disciples saw the Lord, they were filled with joy. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so I am sending you.”

Summary: Christ is Risen! Throughout Eastertide, we worship with the theme, “We,”  for we are a people of the resurrection, we are the risen body of Christ!

As a people of the resurrection, we are overcomers. When Jesus shows the disciples his scars, their fear is overcome with joy. Jesus’ scars are proof of his healing and the possibility of healing for the world. In Christ, we can overcome our fear, find peace and share that peace with the world.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What fear do you want to overcome?
  2. How different would you feel if you overcame that fear?
  3. What is Jesus showing you to face and overcome your fear?
